How It All Started

Einstein once said: “You can’t solve a problem on the level that created it.”

Tony Kirkland started as a therapist in private practise but noticed that therapy didn’t help people have the life that they wanted. There were way too many other things like business issues, spirituality, etc that therapy did not address.

Tony realised that there was more to the human condition, and so he started doing workshops with his clients that had remarkable transformative powers … This was the start of Structural Alignment TM.

What Tony discovered was that the mind was too complicated to be “talked” out of problems. After all … It was the same mind that created the problem.

After years of seeing those limits in his own growth, he discovered Structural Alignment TM. Structural AlignmentTM was a game changer. It allowed him to think about where he was stuck as a place, not as a problem. This was revolutionary. Think of it this way: Imagine being in a city that is so hot that you can hardly breathe. Being hot is a function of where you are and not how you feel. Only by changing cities can you get relief.

Tony discovered that there are locations in the brain, just like the hot city that we described, that every time a person went there, it would cause certain feelings to arise.

Seeing one’s actions, choices and reality as a function of where you are is a powerful way of being. The reason that you are not finding what you want is because what you’re looking for does not exist where you are. No matter how motivated you are, or how many stones you upturn, life, as you know it, is a product of where you experience things from.

This is where a person realises that “reality” had nothing to do with what was happening in reality. It had more to do with “where” one is experiencing it from “inside”.

After travelling the globe with this knowledge and impacting on the lives of many, Tony Kirkland landed in South Africa. It was in South Africa that Tony connected with Warren Munitz and Structural Alignment took form.

Our first coach training program was launched in 2009, but our story started two years earlier. Our original focus was on helping coaches build their private practice and doing executive coaching. As time passed and the business grew, coaches began sharing their frustration with the traditional life coach certification process and the clunky coaching methods that were being taught. That’s when we knew we had to do something.

There were hundreds of life coach certification programs on the market, but none really stacked up to what we knew was possible or met the rigorous international coach certification standards. They were teaching outdated methods that actually kept clients stuck. Yes. Stuck.

In early 2010, we decided to cut back on taking private client work for a few months and started combing through the most effective tools from our NLP and psychotherapy backgrounds. What we discovered blew us away, but we wanted to be sure it could really help other coaches who shared our pain. It turns out we were on to something.
